Q: What is a virtual/true domain?

A: A virtual/true domain is having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com) with its own unique IP number, without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a virtual domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however, you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal email address (you@your-name.com). Having your own domain name enables you to maintain the same e-mail address (you@your-name.com) even if you change Internet providers. Click here to visit our domain name FAQ.

Q: How many people (approx.) can visit in one day on a 30 GB/month allowance?

A: It depends on the amount of data they download by visiting your html pages.

eg: Assume that they will visit 5 pages with 8 KB text each and a total of 40 KB images.
You can get 12,800 visitors a day --> this is equivalent to 1,920,000 page views in one month!

Q: What if I exceed my monthly transfer allowance?

A: You will be notified by e-mail ahead of time, allowing you enough time to reduce traffic or upgrade your account status. For traffic usage in excess of your monthly allowance, you will be billed @ $6.99/month for every additional 1 GB used.
eg: If you are using 31 GB monthly instead of the free 30 GB (Premium plan - 1 GB x 30 days), you pay an additional fee of $6.99 for your bandwidth usage... 32 instead of 30 = + $13.98.

Q: Why do you not offer unlimited traffic/bandwidth usage?

A: Don't believe in unlimited traffic. That's a fake. This is not possible. No provider can really offer this. There are sites on the web, which are consuming 400 GB or 800 GB bandwidth in one month. This bandwidth costs thousands of $ each month. Do you really believe, that an ISP is giving this bandwidth away for $29.95?

So, what happens if you are using a lot of bandwidth on your 'unlimited traffic account' ? There are many possibilities for the ISP.

  • - Maybe they kick you off the server. No questions asked.
  • - They are telling you, that you are using too much bandwidth, and that you are one of the top 5% sites on their servers. And they have a policy, which says that the top 5% sites have to pay $500 a month. (It's not a joke, it's real!)
  • - The ISP has a restriction on the 'unlimited traffic' policy, which says, if you are using more than 8 GB a month, you have to pay for the additional bandwidth usage. Because unlimited traffic is only within 8 GB. That's funny, isn't it ? But it's true.
  • - They throttle the available bandwidth for your account, that it is getting slow like hell if your site is getting to much visitors. The visitors will never come back on such a slow site. They will never use your bandwidth again ;-)
  • - They ask you to move to a dedicated server for several hundred $ each month.

We know a lot of ISP sites there, and they all have restrictions in some way on the unlimited traffic offer. Please always check the fine print.
Do you believe that there is an ISP which want to have yahoo.com or cnn.com on their 'unlimited traffic' servers? You can imagine that for such sites it is necessary to have an own network of servers.

You get, what you pay for!

Q: Will Server Side Includes (SSI) work on your servers?

A: Yes. SSI's will parse on any page ending in .sht or .shtml.

Q: I will be using a lot of Real Audio/Video.
Do you have the RealServer or just HTTP streaming? Is there a big difference between the two?

A: We have the RealServer G2 installed.
The difference is in performance. With a RealServer users get faster and smoother audio/video and can continue to browse while the clip plays. And the special Real Server features like multi-rate SureStream and Slide Presentations will only work with our G2 server.
Click here for a demo file.

Q: Am I limited to the # of files or streams using Real Audio/Video?

A: We run 100 per server that every one would be sharing.

Q: How do I transfer files to my web site?

FTP and FrontPage tutorials are available for beginners who may not be familiar with FTP or FrontPage.

Q: What is the difference between Majordomo and the subscribable maillists?

A: The subscribable maillists are a very simple way of building an e-mail list to make general announcements, such as specials, price drops, or a monthly newsletter.

Majordomo is a highly interactive full featured program that allows everyone subscribed to the list to interact and post to the list. It's fully designed to automate the management of Internet mailing lists.
Commands are sent to Majordomo via electronic mail to handle all aspects of list maintenance. Once a list is set up, virtually all operations can be performed remotely, requiring no intervention upon the postmaster of the list site.
