Features

Whether you want to set up a simple family Web site; an economical business-oriented informational Web site; or need to build a full-blown e-commerce site - Spunkyworld has the right account for you.

Quality is the foundation for a successful and effective Internet presence. At Spunkyworld, we define quality web hosting by:

Hosted on Top-Quality Servers

Our servers are built to be reliable, flexible, super-fast and fault-tolerant from the basis. We use dual processor servers running Linux. The web server software is a stable release of the Apache web server software (see www.apache.org), the #1 choice of servers world-wide (see Survey Results). We are connected to the Internet via 2 DS-3's (45Mbps) and 2 OC3 (155Mbps) on separate and diverse backbones (UUNET and Genuity). The Network Operations Center (NOC) is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to maintain near-zero down times. Additionally, the NOC where are the Spunkyworld servers are located is guarded from environmental hazards with a 250kw natural gas powered generator, redundant air conditioning, and fire suppression systems.

Price - Monthly

This is what you pay every month to Spunkyworld.com for hosting and maintaining your account. You can pay by Credit Card. If you are not an US resident, you can also pay through other means.

Setup Fee

This is for setting up your account and arranging all the technical stuff for your domain. This is a one time fee!

Web Space

This is the amount of space allocated to your account, each 100 Megabytes represents approximately 5000 files. Once your account has been created you can check your disk space usage with your web control panel. Additional disk space is available.

Dedicated IP Address

A dedicated IP address means the IP address (the network-address of your site) never changes and is not shared by other domain names; it is unique to your domain name and your space on the server. With name based hosting (Economy plan) you share the IP address with other users.

Bandwidth Allowance

Regarding bandwidth we are very generous. Our accounts include different amounts of free data-transfer (from 2048 MB to 30720 MB/month). This should be enough for 96% of our customers. Most customers get along with 50 MB a day. However, if you need more bandwidth you can obtain additional one for a reasonable price. We keep our connection to the Internet fast enough to handle almost any web-site, no matter how popular. Leave a e-mail if you've got any questions.

POP3/SMTP E-Mail Account

Is like your account at your current Dial-Up-Provider. You get an E-Mail Account where you can log in with your password and check for new e-mails. And of course you can use it for sending out your mail. Your advantage is to have a life time, never-changing E-Mail address if you have your own Virtual Server, even if you change your Dial-Up-Provider!!
The address for each account will be like this: yourname@yourname.com, yourfriend@yourname.com, youranything@yourname.com etc.!

IMAP Support

IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It is a method of accessing electronic mail or bulletin board messages that are kept on a (possibly shared) mail server. In other words, it permits a "client" email program to access remote message stores as if they were local. For example, email stored on an IMAP server can be manipulated from a desktop computer at home, a workstation at the office, and a notebook computer while traveling, without the need to transfer messages or files back and forth between these computers

E-Mail Aliases / E-Mail Forwarding

An Email alias means if you send mail to example@yourname.com, that address is aliased to whoever needs to receive it. This can be one or multiple persons. Email forwarding is when you have an email account on another server, like at your dial-up ISP. In this case, mail to an address like 'yourname@yoursite.com' is forwarded to another server, so you receive it like your other email.
Another Example: jonathan@yourdomain.com could be redirected to jonathan@aol.com (your ISP account for viewing). You will also be able to provide friends similar aliases at your domain and point it to their ISP.

We give you direct control of your email aliases, forwarding and auto responders. We will let you control virtually every aspect of your web presence from your web browser through our advanced Web Control Panel.

By browsing through the options, you can specify what is being aliased, forwarded, etc.
It's just a click of a mouse button to control it!

E-Mail Auto Responders

An auto responder is similar to an alias, but it also will send an automatic reply back to the sender. So, when you send email to this address, our email server will send an email back to you automatically, containing the text we specified. It also sends the message to us, so we can respond if it looks like we need to. This is controlled via the Web Control Panel, too. And again, unlike at most of our competitors, it's free.

Subscribable Mailing Lists

This will allow you to give your customers a email address that they can send to and be added to your personalized maillist. This is a great way to offer your customers a monthly newsletter, sales updates or just a friendly hello. The PlusMail system is capable of multiple lists so you can organize what information your customers may be looking for, a friendly welcome message will also be sent. Each list can handle up to 1000 names and you can email a message up to 75kb to the list you create.

Spam Filters

Due to the tremendous amount of spam emails on the Internet, we have implemented server side SPAM filters on the Sendmail level (Value/Premium Plans).
The anti-spam filters use several spamming blacklists for spam detection and are working automated. If you don't want to use the filters for your domain name you can disable the filters from your web control panel for your whole domain name or certain email addresses only.
For the Economy Hosting Plan, you may enable Spamassassin.

Procmail

Procmail can be used to filter your incoming mail for spam. With procmail you can preprocess your incoming mail on the server by putting a .procmailrc file into your home dir. However, it's recommended for the advanced user only because there is no graphical user interface for this Linux tool. More info about procmail can be found on the procmail web site.

Web Control Panel

This is our custom web administration system. This will allow you to handle all aspects of your domain administration. Add/Edit your e-mail redirects, subscribable maillists, simple maillists and autoresponders; You can also change permissions on any of your files or directories in your WWW directory. This will also allow you to upload, create, edit and rename files; And much more.

Basic Java Chat

This is our free Java Chat. It's just a simple and clean chat with no additional features. You can create up to 25 chat rooms. Click here for a demo.
If you can not get along with this simple chat, we are also offering a very sophisticated Java Chat solution (5.95 extra/month). We have the Volano Chat server installed, and you can fully customize your chat. The VolanoChat applet has 165 properties you can modify. See here for a complete list: http://www.volano.com/guide21/english.html
Click here for a demo of our advanced Volano Chat.

CGI-BIN / Scripts

CGI scripts (Common Gateway Interface) are used to provide things like counters, form responses, guest books, forums, shopping carts and many other things.  The difference at Spunkyworld is that we give you full CGI access! You don't have to wait for us to 'approve' your scripts, and we don't charge you for installing them! You can write your own, install someone else's, or use one of our pre-installed CGI scripts. And if you create a 'bad' script that tries to kill the server, don't worry, we have a system monitor that will keep your CGI under control.

Real Audio/Video

RealAudio is a real time audio transmission/player system. A digital audio stream is transmitted from the server over the internet to the destination and played immediately, rather than being stored to disk first and then played. We have the RealServer G2 installed. The difference between simple http streaming is in performance. With a RealServer, users get faster and smoother audio/video and can continue to browse while the clip plays.
More info is available at the RealAudio website. Or click here for a demo file.
